This is where most copywriters start frothing at the mouth and making promises they can't deliver: "Who Else Wants to Have 12,432 Customers Crashing Through To Your Orders Page By Midnight Tonight?Yawn.
Sales letters have become big business for copywriters over the last decade or so. That's because a number of so-called 'gurus' have made a lot of money by selling courses and seminars on the subject, realising that it's far more lucrative and much easier than actually writing copy.
I know of at least one 'household name' copywriter who has never written a sales letter in his life but makes six figures a year by pushing the 'definitive' course on the subject. Others charge £10,000 a letter and use a computer program to write it. Seriously.
So people are being bombarded by more sales messages than ever before, all containing variations on the same theme. As a result, response rates have disappeared through the floor.
Even so, the sales letter remains one of the most effective forms of direct marketing if it is written by someone who knows what they are doing.
Sales letter copywriting is as much about science as it is about art. It's about establishing a rapport with your prospect, saying the right things at the right time and peppering the copy with psychological 'hooks' which draw her in and convince her to buy from you.
I ignore all the cliches and build trust and confidence in your offering to give you every chance of making a sale.
